Description

This is the perfect sewing course for you if you are a complete beginner wishing to have a thorough introduction to using a sewing machine, learning different sewing techniques, understanding basic sewing patterns and learning basic cutting skills.  

Qualification Aim/Level
Non-accredited.

Who is this course for?
Complete beginners or those who have only made one or two garments.

What can I expect to Learn?
Using a sewing machine you will learn all the necessary skills to construct the garment you have chosen. These may include sewing straight and curved seams, making darts, tucks, and gathers, buttonholes zips and much more.

How will I learn?
Teaching methods will include; - explanation, demonstration, group/individual discussions/critiques. You will work at your own pace and with the help of your tutor you will learn and carry out all the necessary techniques to complete your individual project and practical task.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will regularly discuss your progress with you. You will also be encouraged to record your comments and review your learning throughout the course.

Will I need to do extra work at home?
Home study is optional; but you will make better progress if you are able to complete work started in course so that you are ready for the next step in your next lesson.

What will I need to provide?
An 'easy' paper pattern in your size. (The fabric is not needed for the first lesson). Sewing machines are provided but you may bring your own if you wish. Small pieces of any woven fabrics and a basic sewing kit of scissors, tape-measure, pins, stitch ripper, chalk etc. Sellotape and paper scissors to prepare the pattern and a ring binder or folder for your pattern and notes.

Are there any other costs?
After you have altered your pattern you will need to purchase the fabric, threads zip buttons etc. to make your garment. Advice on where to buy materials etc. will be given at the first lesson.
