Non-accredited, designed for beginners and learners new to this subject.

Who is this course for?
This non-accredited course is for complete beginners who have very little or no previous knowledge of the British Sign Language.

What can I expect to learn?
This aims to develop an ability to communicate with deaf people in BSL on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use, such as personal information, finger spelling, numbers, colours, weather, transport, directions, interests, food and drink. This course is not accredited and suitable for learners with no previous knowledge of BSL or for those who do not want to take a qualification.

How will I learn?
Your tutor will use a number of different teaching methods, including the use of practical and visual aids to facilitate learning and encourage communication.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will monitor your progress in class and will provide verbal feedback as appropriate.

Will I need to do extra work at Home?
To get the most from the course, we recommend you spend at least ½ hour between sessions going over what you have learnt. In addition, your tutor may set a small amount of homework.

What will I need to provide?
You will need pen, paper and a folder in which to keep your session materials.

Are there any other costs?
No. All costs are included in the fee. Your tutor may give you details of an annual subscription to online resources at reduced price and may also suggest other books or resources to further your knowledge.

What can I do next?
You can join a non-accredited BSL Starter Plus course. If the progression course is not in the programme it can be set up subject to sufficient numbers.
