Description

Taking theory and research evidence from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, and criminology, this course will explore the role of the criminal justice system (UK), the psychology of the courtroom and eyewitness testimony, and the relationship between crime and the media.  

What Qualification/level is this course?
This course does not lead to a qualification and is for personal development.

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for beginners in this subject who wish to gain an insight into forensic psychology and the theories of crime, and develop their understanding of how psychological knowledge and methods can be used to understand criminal behaviour, and how forensic evidence is used in crime scene analyses.

What can I expect to learn?
You will gain an outline knowledge of criminal anthropologies (historical); Gain an overview of the psychological knowledge and methods used within the Criminal Justice system; Understand some aspects of criminal behaviour and criminal profiling; Understand how forensic evidence is used in crime scene analyses, in particular DNA evidence.

How will I learn?
Teaching methods include discussions, lectures, individual and group activities, demonstrations and case studies, and use learning technologies where appropriate.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will give you feedback on classroom activities and tasks undertaken. Individual learning outcomes will be agreed at the beginning of the course, taking into account the course aims and your aspirations. These will be reviewed with you at regular intervals and you will be encouraged to reflect on your own learning and record your feedback in your Individual Learning Plan.

Will I need to do any work at home?
No - but information will be supplied should you wish to undertake external research.

What will I need to provide?
Pencil/pen notebook.
