Description

You will be using the principles and elements of design alongside making and decorating techniques to expand and hone your skills and knowledge of ceramics. For example, you will be looking at using armatures to support building animal and human figures to convey movement. This course will also cover different areas of ceramic design depending on the depth learners wish to work. This includes: movement, colour, form and space, pattern and texture. Techniques you may cover include armature use, vitreous slips and oxides, templates, making sprigs, stamps and 'rollers', throwing large volumes of clays and altering thrown pieces.  

What Qualification/Level is this course?
This course does not lead to a qualification and is for personal development.

Who is this course for?
Ideal for beginners and improvers who wish to learn new skills or practice and extend current skills and knowledge.

What can I expect to learn?
By the end of the course you will have developed your knowledge, practical skills and understanding of: Beginners: How to cut and shape different tesserae How to design a project (you don't have to be good at drawing) How to use tools and equipment safely and efficiently Where to purchase materials and equipment Improvers will revise and practice the above and will also learn more about: How to plan and develop ideas Experimental work and evaluation of individual projects

How will I learn?
You will negotiate and agree your individual learning aims with your tutor at the start of the course. Teaching methods will include:- explanation, demonstration, group/individual discussions/critiques together with the completion of individual and group projects and practical tasks.

How will I know how well I am doing?
Your tutor will regularly discuss your progress with you and this will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan. You will also be encouraged to record your comments in return and review your learning aims throughout the course.

Will I Have to Do Any Work At Home?
Home study is optional; but you will be encouraged to work away from the course to research this topic and practice your new skills.

What will I need to provide?
Please bring a pen, pencil and notebook to the first session. Your tutor will advise you about the purchase of materials for this course.

Are there any other costs?
You may provide your own mosaic materials or you may purchase directly from the college. Your tutor will advise you at the first session. Please wait for advice before purchasing any equipment or materials as they can prove expensive.
